Sketching in Watercolor Workshops

Take a time out to get to know the many facets of watercolor! For those who are new or have modest experience in art or watercolor. Supplies will be provided, or if you already have some bring them along. Pre-register for one or more of these dates:

Saturdays: Feb. 18 & 25, noon – 3 pm

Thursdays: Feb. 16 & 23, noon – 3 pm

$29 per session, or 2 for $49. (Please register soon as space is limited.)
All workshops will be in the friendly, creative space at the gallery, 1505 State Street in Ely.

This fantastic 2 hour class starts with a Wine 101 presentation (of course conducted by our lovely, talented Lauren Cannon from the Secret Cellar) This includes how to hold your wine glass, swirl and sniff and what to look for when you are tasting wine.
Next, we break out the canvasses and create. Painting with acrylics is easy under the instruction of artist Susan Kennicott. With this combination the creative juices flow easily to accomplish a piece of art you can take home with you!

Fine arts, combined with beautiful fall weather created a great day at the Ely Art Fest. There were artists' tables and booths around the lawn, and more art inside the gallery. Plenty of people (and some fellow artists!) stopped in, coming from Ely and the surrounding area to browse and buy art. Many of the artists in the show also have pieces in the gallery including fused glass, beaded jewelry, photography, textiles, acrylic originals, prints, pottery, cards and unique handmade gifts, Check out the slideshow!

Today I saw where Jennifer Anniston purchased "Stranger #44" by artist Glenn Ligon for $450,000 where the estimate was $150,000 -$200,000. Art is individual and personal to the collector. It is beyond the materials used to create the piece. The interpretation of each work speaks not only of the artwork but of the interpreter.
